I. Ability to teach effectively

The following objectives, methods and measures will demonstrate my ability to teach effectively.

I will successfully teach 12 assigned credits for fall and spring semesters 2020-21 and 2021-22. Classes will most likely include:

  • MASC 2243 – Video Editing
  • MASC 2780 – Culmination
  • MASC 3600 – Social Media Marketing
  • MASC 3650 – Media Production for Social Entrepreneurship
  • MASC 4220 – Multimedia Marketing
  • MASC 4312 – Production Company

In the summers, I will most likely offer:

  • MASC 2600 – Advertising
  • MASC 3600 – Social Media Marketing
  • MASC 3850 – Media Ethics and Law

Objective 1: Use engaging teaching approaches and updated course content to teach courses.

Methods: Develop and update course content; Review, revise and update courses and teaching approaches.

Year 1

All courses: Review and revise existing course materials to update and make them more relevant.

Note: This has been a major undertaking. Three of my four courses this fall have had major revisions to accommodate the synchronous Zoom sessions and asynchronous work. This is not a trivial matter — I estimate that it takes 2-3 times more time than usual to plan engaging zoom sessions and prepare the asynchronous work.

Guest speakers:  Will be invited to share their experiences in Culmination, Media Production for Social Entrepreneurship, and Production Company.

New discussion software: Will be implemented in Social Media Marketing in the spring.

New editing practice software: Will be implemented in Video Editing.

Year 2

All courses: Review and revise existing course materials to update and make them more relevant.

Guest speakers:  Will be invited to share their experiences in Culmination, Media Production for Social Entrepreneurship, and Production Company.

Review and revise assignments for Video Editing MASC 2243 to make the content more relevant for Marketing Communication students.

Evaluate Stukent or similar simulation software for Social Media Marketing.

Measure:

Course materials will be revised, guest speakers will present and software will be implemented or evaluated. Syllabi will be attached.

Report of Stukent or similar software evaluation.

Midterm and end of semester evaluations of courses will be conducted, reviewed and adjustments made.

Expected Results:

All courses will be successfully taught with updated content and methods.

Objective 2: Provide course assistance to students.

Methods:

I respond promptly to students via email, zoom and phone during the hours of 7AM and 7 PM, week days. My standard response time is less than 24 hours, but I often respond more quickly.

I offer email and in person Zoom office hours to ensure that my students have access to assistance.

I use BSU’s Starfish software so that students can schedule appointments. Our students are busy with courses, jobs and student media and they seem to appreciate the opportunity to schedule time certain meetings.

I strive to provide feedback to students in a timely manner to ensure that the feedback is meaningful. Typically, this is within 7 calendar days.

Note: The amount of time that I spend reaching out to students to check in on them, follow up and offer extra help has increased dramatically. Students are struggling with online courses and while the Zoom meetings help, students must exercise great degree of self-motivation.

Measure:

Midterm and end of semester evaluations of courses will be conducted, reviewed and adjustments made with specific questions about support.

Expected Results:

Students will be provided the course assistance they need to be successful in my courses.
